No Android 4.4 update for Galaxy Nexus

Google has revealed that it won’t be pushing Android 4.4 KitKat update to Galaxy Nexus smartphone. According to the company, Galaxy Nexus is now two-years old and has crossed the 18 months support window.

“No, Galaxy Nexus phones won’t be receiving the update for Android 4.4 (KitKat). Galaxy Nexus, which first launched two years ago, falls outside of the 18-month update window when Google and others traditionally update devices,” Google noted on a support page.

As Galaxy Nexus seems perfectly capable of handling Android 4.4, we hope to see custom ROM providers bring KitKat to this phone soon.

Originally introduced in 2011, Galaxy Nexus was manufactured by Samsung and has already received Android 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 Android updates.

In related news, other Nexus devices like Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2012), Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 10 are all set to receive Android 4.4 update in the coming weeks.
