Originally showcased at CES earlier this year, Ascend Mate will be competing with Samsung’s recently announced Galaxy Mega series of smartphones.
Packing a massive 6.1-inch 720p HD display, Ascend Mate comes with 1.5 GHz Hi-Silicon quad-core processor, and huge 4050 mAh battery. The phone runs on Android 4.1 and features an 8.0-megapixel AF rear-facing camera with HDR and 1.0-megapixel HD front-facing camera.
According to Huawei, similar to the company’s recent products, Ascend Mate also comes with Emotion UI, which packs quite come software customisations.
Harvey Norman will also be bundling a Boost Mobile prepaid starter kit valued at $40 with every Ascend Mate.
“Australia is the most challenging network market in the world, especially when you look at the land mass and then you add LTE on top of that. You’re in a situation where you want to try and support everybody. At this point in time we wanted to bring this device out into the market,” said Huawei’s Australian sales manager for retail, Minh Phan.
