AliExpress, SnackVideo, and 41 more Chinese apps are the latest to join the likes of TikTok and PUBG Mobile in India. The government on Tuesday announced that it was banning 43 mobile apps for “engaging in activities prejudicial to integrity of India.” This is the same reasoning that was given while banning 177 apps in two tranches of 59 and 118 earlier this year. A quick search on Google Play store revealed that most of these apps are already not available to download, showing a quick action on the part of app developers and Google.

As per a press release issued by the Ministry of Electronics & IT, the government of India is blocking 43 mobile apps from accessing users from India. The block comes as an order under section 69A of the Information Technology Act. 

“This action was taken based on the inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order,” the press release noted.

AliExpress is an e-commerce website from Alibaba Group that allows consumers, especially from outside mainland China, to order cheap Chinese products. It was established in 2010 and has since become massive. SnackVideo, on the other hand, is a TikTok-like short video platform that gained popularity after TikTok was banned in India.

To recall, Indian government had banned 59 mobile apps, including TikTok, Shareit, UC Browser, Clash of Kings, Likee, WeChat, ES File Explorer, Cam Scanner, on June 29. 118 more apps were banned on September 2, and these included PUBG Mobile, APUS Launcher, Baidu, Applock, Alipay, and Rules of Survival. 

PUBG and TikTok are trying ways to get their apps unblocked but nothing has been decided by the government so far. Hence, it is unlikely that we will see any of the total 220 banned apps available for download again in India anytime soon.
