Microsoft to make it easier for devs to port Android apps to Windows 10

There were quite a few rumours that Microsoft was working on some kind of mechanism to allow Android apps to work on Windows. Turns out, the rumours were partially true. Microsoft isn’t really allowing Android apps to work on Windows, but it is making it easier for the developers to port their apps to Windows.

Microsoft on Wednesday unveiled a set of software development kits (SDKs) to help developers bring their Android (and iOS) apps to Windows 10. They won’t need to completely retool their apps to work on Windows, but with some modifications like switching GMS (Google Mobile Services) APIs wih Microsoft’s APIs, the apps will be good to go.

According to Microsoft, the new SDKs will allow the developers to start with their existing Java or C++ code base and integrate with the Universal Windows Platform capabilities.

Not many details are available at this point, but we will let you folks know as soon as the aforementioned SDKs are available.
