While CES and MWC trade events are used by the smartphone manufacturers for launches meant for the first half of the year, IFA Berlin has emerged as the location for all key launches for the second half. As we head closer to IFA this year, which is scheduled from September 5 to September 10, manufacturers have started sending out media invites indicating at upcoming smartphone launches.

Huawei and Sony are among the first smartphone vendors to dispatch their invites for press events scheduled on September 4 and September 3 respectively. Both smartphone makers are expected to unveil new Android phones at the event but the exact details are unclear at this point.

If rumours are to be believed, Sony will be showcasing the Xperia Z3 smartphone, which is expected to be very similar to Xperia Z2 but will improve on certain aspects. Xperia Z3 will act as the company flagship smartphone for H2, 2014.

On the other hand, Huawei is likely to introduce the Ascend Mate 7 phablet at IFA, which will come with a 6-inch display, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front shooter and the company’s Kirin 920 processor.

We expect to get more details about these devices in the coming weeks.
