After a number of teasers, Panasonic today introduced its first Eluga-series smartphone in the Indian market. The company unveiled the new Eluga U at a press event in New Delhi, which will go on sale beginning tomorrow i.e. July 31 for INR 18,990.

Featuring a 5-inch 720p HD IPS display, the Panasonic Eluga U comes with 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and microSD card slot. The phone runs on Android 4.4.2 and packs 2500 mAh battery, 13MP rear camera with LED flash, 2MP front shooter and dual-SIM support.

In addition, Panasonic has included HD voice support, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and FM Radio on the smartphone.

On the software front, the company has pre-loaded a number of enhancements including the Fit Home UI (keeps the app drawer in lower half of the screen thus allowing for one-hand operation), Kwik Lock for double-tap to wake, Pop-i-player, and Gesture play.

While these features would have been enough a few months ago, the arrival of devices like Asus Zenfone 5 and Xiaomi Mi 3 have changed the market dynamics and the consumers have far better choices at much lower price-tags.
