He Shiyou, executive vice-president and head of ZTE’ handset business, told FT that ZTE is investing in R&D of wearables including smartwatches and even products like Google Glass and we could see the first smartwatch early-next year.

“ZTE wearable smart watches will be launched as early as the first quarter,” Shiyou said. He did not reveal any other details about the smartwatch.

Talking about ZTE’s smartphone plans, He Shiyou noted that ZTE was considering acquisitions or mergers to grow the company’s share in the very competitive smartphone market. He did not say anything about what kind of acquisitions we could expect.
