Sony has announced that it has started rolling out a new firmware update based on Android 4.2.2 release for Xperia Z, ZR, ZL and Tablet Z devices. The update is being released in a phased manner, so it might take some time to appear on your device.

We are hearing reports that at least Xperia ZR smartphones users in India are already getting this update.

According to Sony’s tweet, which you can see above, the update brings fixes for various issues related to display, camera and battery. The update also improves the overall performance of these devices.

Apart from this, not much is known about the update, if you have already got this update on your Sony Xperia device, do let us know about the experience in comments.

This particular update comes just over a month after Sony rolled out updated media apps for the Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Z Ultra smartphones in August.

I’m getting the update notification via Sony PC Companion, but nothing about updates from the phone OTA Update Center. How inconvenient.
