Microsoft to bring Age of Empires to Android devices

Microsoft will be releasing its popular Age of Empires game on Android smartphones and tablets through a tie-up with Japan’s KLab. Majority of the work is being done by KLab for this port and Microsoft is just licensing the game for release on mobile devices.

According to KLab, the game’s Android port will be released before the end of March 2014.  A Microsoft spokesperson added that the English version of the game will launched first, however there are plans for other language versions as well.

If you were hoping to see more Microsoft games like Halo on Android, you are out of luck as the current agreement is only for one game.

As per analysts, we could see companies like Nintendo and Sony as well licensing their games to third-party developers to make ports for mobile devices to leverage their gaming assets.

According to a report in Reuters, the news of the tie-up with Microsoft led to sharp rise in the shares prices of KLab in Tokyo trade on Tuesday, with its price indicated at 972 yen, 18 percent higher than its last close.
