Within days of Amazon.in debut, the retail giant has launched its Android tablets – Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HD 8.9 in the Indian market. Both these tablets along with Kindle Paperwhite e-readers will be available for purchase beginning June 27 at Amazon.in.

Amazon Kindle Fire HD, which is going to compete directly with Google’s Nexus 7 tablet, has been priced at INR 15,999 (16GB) and INR 18,999 (32GB), the same price at which Nexus 7 retails in India. On the other hand, Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 has got a price tag of INR 21,999 (16GB) and INR 25,999 (32GB).

“Not only does Kindle Fire feature advanced hardware, it’s also a service, “said Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle. “The combination of the leading apps, the largest book selection, great email and browsing and top rated customer service, we hope our customers in India will agree that Kindle Fire HD is the best tablet for a great price.”

To remind you, Kindle Fire HD tablets were originally announced last year in the US and since then Amazon has taken them to over 177 countries and the tablets are starting to ship in majority of these countries today.

In terms of the software, both tablets run on a forked version of Android, which has been customised by Amazon, so it has very different from the normal Android tablet experience. Amazon tablets do not come with Google Play access and have Amazon Appstore on-board, which became officially available in India a few days ago. You can check out hardware details below.
