Encouraged by more than expected HTC Butterfly sales, Taiwanese manufacturer HTC is now planning to launch a successor to the smartphone.  Company did not reveal the launch schedule for Butterfly 2, but we can expect to see the phone in the third or fourth quarter of the year.

“Taiwan’s HTC Corp. said Monday it will soon launch a second generation “Butterfly” customized smartphone to capitalize on growing consumer interest in the large-screen phone segment,” noted Focus Taiwan in a report.

HTC’s marketing chief Ben Ho revealed that the original Butterfly was initially meant for specific Japanese carriers but company later released it in other markets too. He also noted that HTC had no intentions of changing the name of the series.

“We have no plans for the time being to change the name of this series,” Ho told media.

Being the first smartphone with full HD 1080p display, HTC Butterfly was especially successful in Japan, where it even replaced Apple iPhone 5 as the top seller on KDDI in December.
