HTC announces Desire U with 1GHz processor, Ice Cream Sandwich

HTC has launched a new entry-level Desire series Android smartphone in its home country Taiwan. Dubbed as Desire U, the phone will go on sale with Chunghwa Telecom for NT$7,990 (US$275), however there are several other contracts options also available. There is no word on the global release right now, but we can expect the phone to hit other Asian markets like India in the near future if not North America or Europe.

HTC Desire U packs a single core 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 4-inch WVGA display, and 4GB of internal storage. It also comes with a 5MP camera on the back and 1650 mAh removable battery. From these specs, the Desire U seems like a continuation of Desire C smartphone.

Chughwa Telecom has revealed that it is targeting mainly students and first-time smartphone buyers with Desire U.

In related news, HTC will be releasing its flagship Android smartphone M7 in the next few weeks at a press event in London. The phone will feature 4.7-inch 1080p display, quad-core CPU and Jelly Bean.
