Asus PadFone debuts in India, but will you buy it at INR 64,999?

As we reported last week, Asus has announced the launch of PadFone in the Indian market today. While, we were expecting a huge price-tag, Asus has surprised us with an INR 64,999 price. We are pretty sure it will limit (or make it almost nil) the already limited buyers of this device.

Coming to the device, Asus PadFone is a combination of two devices – a phone and a tablet, which can further be transformed into a laptop using keyboard dock (dock included in the price).  The only the phone comes with a processor, the tablet is useless unless the phone is docked in it.

Padfone (the phone part) comes with 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 procoessor, Android 4.0, 1GB RAM, 4.3 inch Super AMOLED qHD display, 32GB of internal storage, 8MP rear camera with LED flash, VGA front camera, and 1520 mAh battery.

On the other hand, Padfone Station (tablet part) features a 10.1 inch 1280X800p display, 1.3MP front camera, and Micro USB + Micro HDMI port.

As you can see the spec, neither of the part have industry leading specifications and one could easily buy a flagship quad-core phone and a quite decent tablet at this price.

The company has also included a stylus headset with the Padfone, which works both as a stylus for tablet and a headset for making and receiving calls.

“Today’s introduction of PadFone will be an utmost expansion of our users’ world where they will enjoy, achieve and save categorically. It is an alluring proof to substantiate our prime focus on the mastery of technological innovation and design perfection. We are assertive that PadFone will touch customers’ heart in terms of incredible product, incredible design, incredible quality and incredible service,” affirmed Mr. Alex Huang, Managing Director, System Business Group, Asus India, in a statement.

65000?? Why Asus Why? Who do you think will buy a phone and tab at this price. We can get a decent HD TV in this price.
This is not even launched in US and price is about 800-850 USD. I was expecting about 50-52K for this device. 65K makes it out of reach for most of us. Wonder who would go for this as in this price I can get a Iphone 4Gs and a Ipad or a Galaxy SIII and Galaxy tab…
Disappointed
