Sprint begins removing Carrier IQ from HTC phones

Advertisements

HTC has confirmed to The Verge that it is working with Sprint to release maintenance updates that will remove Carrier IQ from its phones. Reportedly the first phone to get this update is HTC Evo 3D, which recently got a bug fix update.

There is no clear time-frame for the update roll-out for other phones.

HTC Statement:

HTC can confirm that we’re working with Sprint to provide maintenance releases that will remove Carrier IQ and provide security enhancements and bug fixes beginning in January.

Carrier IQ became point of interest last year, after reports of carrier pre-loading tracking software on phones came to light. It was reported that these tracking softwares (read Carrier IQ) were logging user information on the devices, which could have been exploited by a malicious app.
