ZTE targets China, US to bolster profits

Chinese telecommunication equipment manufacturer ZTE has told Reuters that it sees United States and China as the key-markets for its new smartphone focused strategy.

ZTE, which was founded in 1985, is looking to focus on high-end smartphone to bolster the profit margins. <cite=”http://in.reuters.com/article/2012/01/17/zte-idINDEE80G08220120117″>”The United States and China will be key engines driving our smartphone sales,” Lv Qianhao, head of handset strategy, told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday.

Excerpts from the interview:

  • ZTE expects to double its smartphone shipments this year.
  • It has sold 8 million of its flagship Blade smartphones globally, with 5 million in China.
