Will be joined by Meizu MX4 Ubuntu phone in Europe

Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu editionMonth after releasing the first commercially available Ubuntu OS-powered smartphone, Spanish firm BQ is getting ready to launch their second Ubuntu phone. Dubbed as Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition, the new phone will go on sale in Europe in mid-June. It will carry a price-tag of 199.99 euros.

“Working with Canonical on bringing the Aquaris E5 Ubuntu Edition has been very satisfying. We share the same philosophy as them along with the same commitment to the Open Source Initiative. At BQ, our goal is to help people understand technology, encourage them to use it and inspire them to create it. That´s why the opportunity for creation that Ubuntu affords is fundamentally important to us,” said Alberto Méndez of BQ.

Coming to the specifications, Aquaris E5 HD features a 5-inch IPS HD display, 1.3 GHz MediaTek quad-core processor, 16GB of built-in storage and 1GB RAM. In addition, the phone will pack a 5MP front camera,13MP rear camera with dual LED flash and dual-SIM support.

Like Aquaris E5 Ubuntu Edition was just Ubuntu slapped on Android-based Aquaris E5, Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition is also merely an Ubuntu OS version of an Android smartphone from the company.

The BQ smartphone will be joined by Meizu’s Ubuntu smartphone in Europe, which was until available only in China. According a report in OMG Ubuntu, the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu edition will go on sale in June at 299.99 euros.

Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition sports a 5.3-inch full HD IPS display, 2GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6595 processor, 2GB of RAM, 20.7 MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing shooter, and 3100 mAh battery.
