Sony has introduced the successor to its Xperia A2 smartphone in the Japanese market. Dubbed as Sony Xperia A4, the new phone will be released in partnership with telecom operator NTT Docomo. Like previous A-series smartphones, the A4 is unlikely to be released in other markets, but the company will release a similar model under the Z-series for global consumers.

As per a press release issued by the company, Sony Xperia A4 features 4.6-inch 720p HD display, 2600 mAh battery, Android 5.0 and 2GB of RAM. The phone is powered by 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and packs 20.7MP rear camera with LED flash and 2MP front shooter in the A4.

Other specifications of the smartphone include water/ dust resistance, the usual set of connectivity options including 4G LTE, and 16GB of on-board storage.

Sony Xperia A4 will be released in four colour options and go on sale in mid-June.

In addition to the Xperia A4, Sony is also launching the Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z4 Tablet with NTT Docomo. While the Z4 will go on sale in June, Z4 Tablet will arrive in July 2015 for the Docomo users.
