According to a report in The Economic Times, Dazen will be an online-only brand like Motorola, Micromax’s Yu Televentures and Huawei’s Honor. Coolpad is also planning to set-up a research & development centre and mobile phone manufacturing facility in the country.
“We will use the strengths of Coolpad as a manufacturer and innovator and the intent is to build a software and services ecosystem solving needs of our customers that are mostly online buyers,” Varun Sharma, CEO, Coolpad India, told ET.
There is no word on which Coolpad smartphones will reach the country first, however Coolpad has told ET that it will release smartphones priced between INR 5,000 and INR 20,000. So, we can expect to see budget and mid-range phones from the company.
While Coolpad’s India R&D Centre and manufacturing unit might take a couple of years to become a reality, the smartphone launch is expected to happen soon as the company is targeting to be one of the top-three online-only brands in the country before the end of this year.

If all the oems come to India and launch their own products, wont it be a shortage for rebranders like Micromax, YU Televentures, Karbonn amongst others?
Very Interesting move by Coolpad to enter the Indian Market. To begin with, they have appointed an extremely capable and innovative CEO. I wont be surprised if Coolpad is the leader in this segment within two years .More power to them !!
