With the upgraded mechanism, the consumers will now be able tap on the install link next to the search results and it will redirect them to Play Store listing and once they have completed the install, the Play Store will show a “continue” option, which will open the search result (as shown in GIF on top).
While this feature will help webmasters and app developers in driving their application installs, it isn’t very useful for the consumers. It might, in some cases, help them discover apps, but that is the extent of its usefulness for the consumers. Also, the users don’t always have the time to install apps and then view the search results, when they want to quickly find something.
Google replaces URLs with website names in mobile search
In related news, Google has also tweaked the interface of the mobile search pages and will now show website names instead of the URLs on the results page and breadcrumbs-like format to show the positioning of the webpage in site hierarchy.
“…today we’re updating the algorithms that display URLs in the search results to better reflect the names of websites, using the real-world name of the site instead of the domain name, and the URL structure of the sites in a breadcrumbs-like format,” wrote Google in a blog post.
At this point, the site name change is limited to the United States, however breadcrumbs will roll-out gradually worldwide.
