After the successful launch of the Yureka, Micromax-backed Yu Televentures is getting ready to introduce its second smartphone with Cyanogen OS. Set to run on Android 5.0-based Cyanogen OS 12, the new smartphone is code-named “Project Caesar,” reports BGR India.
The smartphone specifics are unclear at this moment, but it quite likely that Yu will target a different smartphone segment or price-category with the new phone. Yu Televentures co-founder Rahul Sharma reportedly told BGR that the upcoming phone will be the best device in its category.
We expect the phone to be exclusive to one of e-retailers and follow the same flash sale model that is being used with Yureka.
Although it is unconfirmed, we believe that the next Yu phone could be based on a Qualcomm Reference Design (QRD), for which Cyanogen recently partnered with Qualcomm to develop CM OS 12 firmware. As Yu is currently not designing or manufacturing smartphones by itself and is using OEMs (Coolpad in the case of Yureka), QRD will be a great turnkey solution for Yu. This is however all a theory at this moment but a quite plausible one and we will know, whether it is a right one or not, soon enough.
