Samsung is already putting more resources in Tizen as its main wearables platform and if you were wondering the same is going to happen with LG, worry not. LG on Sunday re-assured the tech media at a press event in Barcelona that it remains committed to Android Wear and the new webOS-based wearables platform (Watch Urbane LTE runs on it) is just an experiment.
“Android Wear is the primary OS for LG wearable devices,” LG vice president Chris Yie noted at the press meet. However, he added that they won’t be able to satisfy all consumers with Android Wear, thus the new platform, which allowed them to support 4G LTE as well as NFC-based payments in the new Watch Urbane LTE and it was not possible with Android Wear. To remind you, Android Wear allows for little customization from the manufacturer-side right now, but Google is working to change that.
LG has still not revealed the price of Watch Urbane LTE, but we hope to hear something from the company in the next few days of the MWC 2015.
