Inventec to set up production lines in Chennai, might build Xiaomi devices

Advertisements

Contract manufacturer Inventec is planning to set-up production lines in a leased factory in Chennai and will start production in Q2 or Q3 of 2015, reports Digitimes. Although Inventec has not revealed what it will build in this factory, Digitimes claims it is initially likely to assemble smartphones and other devices for Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi.

According to Digitimes, this factory will meet the production demands of Inventec in the next one-two years.

No other details are at this point, but this report lines-up with some old rumours, which had suggested that Xiaomi was in talks with some contract manufacturers to start producing devices for the company in India itself.

Xiaomi currently faces a lot of issues in importing high-numbers of smartphones each week in the country for the flash sales and if Inventec indeed begins to build Xiaomi devices in Chennai, it will be a huge help for the Chinese smartphone maker.
