Lollipop finally appears in Android distribution stats with 1.6pc share

Three months after the official unveiling, Google’s Android 5.0 has finally reached enough devices to make an appearance on the Android platform distribution stats. As per the February numbers shared by Google earlier today, Android 5.0 is now present on 1.6 percent of the total active Android devices. It is currently at the second-last spot on the table, just above Froyo, which is almost ready for its demise with 0.4 percent share.

Among other Android versions, KitKat has increased its market share to 39.7 percent, however Jelly Bean, Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich have each lost some of their share and are now present on 44.5 percent, 7.4 percent and 6.4 percent of Android devices.

To remind you, Google collects these numbers by accounting for the devices that have visited the Play Store in the past week. The numbers are intended to help the Android app developers to get a better sense of the ecosystem, so they can better allocate their resources to target the most number of Android users.
