Chromecast has been used for more than one billion casts: Google

Google revealed during its Q4, 2014 earnings call that the consumers have used Chromecast to stream content more than 1 billion times till date. The Google media streamer achieved this milestone last week, around 18 months after its original introduction at Google I/O 2013.

“Chromecast continues to be a hit. Just last week, we saw our 1 billionth tap of the cast button. Chromecast usage per device has increased by 60% since launch due to a growing roster of new apps and features,” stated Google.

Google also cited the NPD Retail Tracking numbers to re-iterate that Chromecast continues to be the number one selling streaming device in the United States.

Here are some Android-related highlights from Google’s earnings call:

  • 15 percent of signed-in users’ searches on Android now return deep links to apps.
  • Google’s other revenue grew 19% year-over-year to $2 billion was up 6% quarter-over-quarter, driven by year-over-year growth in Google Play Store.
  • Nexus 6 was well received by the consumers and Google was unable to secure sufficient inventory to meet the demand.
