Samsung drops Qualcomm processor from Galaxy S6: Report

Qualcomm LogoSamsung has reportedly decided not to use Qualcomm Snapdragon processor for its next flagship smartphone. According to Bloomberg, the company will stick to its own chip for Galaxy S6, which arrives in the first half of this year.

This isn’t the first time, we are hearing about Samsung’s alleged plans to skip Snapdragon 810 for S6. Earlier, Digitimes had reported the next Galaxy-series flagship will feature Samsung’s own 14nm Exynos-series processor because of overheating and other issues with Qualcomm chip.

Traditionally, Samsung has used both Qualcomm and Exynos-series chips for Galaxy S smartphones, but this year could be different. If Qualcomm chip-snub indeed turns out to be true, Samsung’s semiconductor arm will have a hard time fulfilling processor demand for Galaxy S6.

To remind you, rumours indicate that Samsung Galaxy S6 will come with a Quad-HD display and touch-based fingerprint sensor (instead of the swipe-based). The phone will also reportedly sport a glass and metal design.
