Samsung starts Android 5.0 update roll-out for Galaxy S5

Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop updateSamsung has started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S5 S900F smartphone. The update is currently live in Poland and being released both over-the-air and via Samsung Kies application.

We expect the update to go live in other markets in the coming weeks for the unlocked models, however the carrier-branded Galaxy S5 units will take slightly more time given the added carrier-testing time.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop brings a number of improvements and changes to the S5 like tweaked user-interface, better fingerprint recognition, performance enhancements, improved notifications, ART as default runtime. The exact official change-log is unavailable at this point.

This is the fastest Samsung has been able to roll-out a major Android version for its existing smartphones. Since the Lollipop code dump in AOSP, the company has taken just 31 days to release the Galaxy S5 update. The company, however still fell behind Motorola and LG, both of which have already released Android 5.0 for one or more of their phones.
