HTC to release Android 5.0 update for One M7 & M8 in 90 days

HTC has announced that it will be start rolling out Android 5.0 update for One (M7) and One (M8) smartphones in the next three months. The company announced the news on Twitter after Google released the Lollipop source code in Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

The company has not shared any other details at this point but you can expect to see the Sense-fied version of Lollipop on these phones. The update will also include the Lollipop features like enhanced notifications, ART as default runtime, UI improvements, improved battery life, enhanced camera, and more.

There is no word on the Android 5.0 update for other HTC smartphones but we expect to hear from the company in the coming weeks.

HTC to release self-branded tablets next year

In related news, HTC has announced that it will be launching self-branded tablets next year. No specifics are known at this point but HTC has stated that it will be focussing on the premium segment rather than entry-level devices.

“There is actually a bit more room for growth and product differentiation in the high-end and mid-tier tablet segments,” HTC North Asia President Jack Tong told CNA at a press event in Taipei.
