Xiaomi plans to sell 100,000 smartphones every week in India next month

Hoping to capitalise on the Diwali shopping season, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is planning to put as much as 100,000 smartphones for sale each week next month in India, said Hugo Barra, who is in-charge of Xiaomi’s international operations. He was speaking to Reuters on the sidelines of an industry event.

“For the Diwali month we’re chartering planes from Hong Kong to India to bring in Mi 3 and Redmi phones because it’s too much product,” Barra told Reuters. The company’s India head Manu Jain had earlier noted that Xiaomi is bring Mi 3 back in the country next month. The sales of Mi 3 were suspended in the country last month.

It is likely that Xiaomi will retail 60,000 units of Redmi 1S and 40,000 units of Mi 3 or 80,000 units of Redmi 1S and 20,000 units of Mi 3 each week as a part of its usual flash sale model in October. There is however no confirmation on the break-up of the available Xiaomi products for the next month.

To remind you, Xiaomi currently sells 60,000 units of Redmi 1S smartphone in the country via Flipkart, which is the exclusive retailer for all official products from Xiaomi.
