HTC releases Desire 816 smartphone in US

Months after the debut of Desire 816 Android smartphones in Asian markets, Taiwanese manufacturer HTC has decided to launch it in the US. The smartphone will be sold via HTC.com as well as Virgin Mobile in the country. In addition, HTC is also expanding the availability of Desire 610, which will retail via HTC.com in addition to AT&T, where it has been selling for the last fortnight.

“Design and innovation are what we’re known for, and now we’re taking that to new segments of the market with our HTC Desire line. We thought it was time that consumers had better smartphones to choose from across price points and payment options. We have partnered with a number of retailers to ensure that these HTC Desire line of products are not only affordable, but also accessible,” said Erin McGee, Vice President of Marketing of HTC America.

To remind you, HTC Desire 816 features a 5.5-inch 720p HD display, 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The phone also comes with microSD card slot, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera.

Pricing and availability

According to HTC, The HTC Desire 816 will be available beginning this Tuesday, August 12, at Virgin Mobile for $299 on any of Virgin Mobile USA’s Beyond Talk no-contract plans and at various retail outlets later this month.
