LG ships 14.5 million smartphones in Q2, up 20 percent

LG today announced that its mobile business turned profitable in Q2, 2014 after three straight quarters of losses. The company posted 85.9 billion won ($83.4 million) in profit. It also revealed that it shipped record 14.5 million smartphones in the quarter, riding on the early-success of G3 and L-series III smartphones.  The shipments were up 20 percent year-over-year.

In addition, the Korean manufacturer noted that the sales of the mobile unit increased 16 percent from the same period last year to 3.62 trillion won ($3.51 billion), the highest for LG Mobile since the first quarter of 2010.

While other manufacturers like HTC and Samsung are seeing a drop in shipments or struggling to sell smartphones, it is surprising to see LG do well.

The company hopes to continue similar performance in the future and to achieve that it plans to introduce more mass tier smartphones in H2, 2014 including new variants of the LG G3 as well as more L-series models.
