Google to remove Quickoffice from Google Play

QuickofficeGoogle has announced that it will remove the Quickoffice app from Google Play in the coming weeks. As all of app’s functionality has been integrated in the search giant’s Docs, Sheets and Slides apps, there is no point in keeping another app with same features in the Play Store.

“With the integration of Quickoffice into the Google Docs, Sheets and Slides apps, the Quickoffice app will be unpublished from Google Play and the App Store in the coming weeks. Existing users with the app can continue to use it, but no features will be added and new users will not be able to install the app,” Google Apps team wrote in a blog post.

If you like Quickoffice, download it now before it is unpublished, however keep in mind that the app won’t be updated any longer, so you will not be getting any new features or bug-fixes.

On the other hand, Google Drive will continue to remain in Google Play but you will need to use the new Docs, Sheets and Slides apps to access and edit office documents.

  1. It was a grotty app anyway. Try out SoftMaker Office Mobile for comparison n(or, separately, word processor “TextMaker Mobile”, spreadsheet “PlanMaker Mobile”, presentation author “Presentations Mobile”): these apps let you open/save Microsoft Office formats faithfully, QuickOffice destroys formatting; these apps have a broad scope of features, QuickOffice is truly limited. No one has to miss it.
