Advertisements

Google has released an update for its Text-to-Speech engine on Android. The new version brings support for English (India), Polish, Russian and Dutch, however as of now, only female voice outputs are available for the new languages.

To remind you, Text-to-Speech engine is used by Android apps like Google Play Books to read the text on the screen aloud.  To change the Text-to-Speech settings on your Android device, go to Settings > Language & Input > Text-to-speech output.

Here is the full list of support languages: Dutch, English (India), English (United Kingdom), English (United States), French, German, Italian, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (United States).

English (India) support?

While English (India) support might make a difference if it was Speech-to-Text but for Text-to-Speech, it doesn’t really matter.  Also, the English (India) speech output is poor.
