Xiaomi enters Malaysia, product announcements soon

Advertisements

After a host of teasers, Xiaomi has entered the Malaysian market today. The company confirmed its arrival in a “Hello Malaysia” post on the official Facebook page earlier today. In a simultaneous post on Xiaomi Singapore FB page, the company revealed that it will be announcing new products for the country soon.

Although unconfirmed, Xiaomi is expected to follow the same sales model as Singapore in Malaysia – sales via its online store and carrier tie-ups. It is expected to release Xiaomi RedMi, Mi3 and RedMi Note smartphones in the country first.

To remind you, Xiaomi currently operates in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore and will be heading to nine more countries apart from Malaysia this year. These nine countries are Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Russia, Turkey, Brazil and Mexico. As it heads to more markets, the company is tweaking its identity to better target global users. In the same bid, it recently introduced the new Mi.com domain.

Xiaomi Mi3 gets a price cut

In related news, Xiaomi has reduced the price of its flagship Mi3 smartphone. The 16GB version of the phone now starts at 1699 yuan. It was earlier priced at 1999 yuan. The new pricing seems to be live only in China right now and there is no word on when it will be passed to other markets. The new pricing is live in all Xiaomi markets.
