Xiaomi is coming to Malaysia and India next: Hugo Barra

Great news for Malaysian and Indian Android lovers and as their countries are next on the list for Xiaomi’s global expansion. Already selling in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore, Xiaomi Android smartphones will soon reach Malaysia and India, revealed Xiaomi Global VP Hugo Barra in an interview with CNET Asia.

Xiaomi’s impending India launch was further confirmed by a tweet from Google India MD Rajan Anandan, who revealed his meeting with Xiaomi Co-Founder and President Bin Lin as well as Barra in New Delhi on Monday, who no doubt were in the country to work out the launch details.

Barra also told CNET that Xiaomi will be using the same business model in India and Malaysia, which it has used in Taiwan and Singapore – partner with a local telecom operator as well as sell the device via the company’s online store. As has already been announced by the company, Singapore will act as the hub for the international operations of the company, although Hugo Barra will remain in Beijing.

Xiaomi Global VP also noted that the company is working on an LTE smartphone but declined to give any more details. It will be the first LTE smartphone from the company.
