Xiaomi has finally confirmed its upcoming 5.5-inch Android smartphone Hongmi Note (also known as Redmi Note) via a teaser posted on Tencent’s Qzone website. Set to go on pre-order via Qzone on March 19, the phone is expected to be a mid-range phablet with 5.5-inch 720p display. It will be officially available on March 26.

Other features are rumoured to include an octa-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, dual-SIM support and the usual set of connectivity options.

In addition, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has shared the first render of the smartphone in a post on Weibo (inserted at the end of the post), where he writes that Hongmi Note will provide good performance and power-saving capabilities.

There is no word on the pricing right now but it is expected to be around $150-$180. Xiaomi Hongmi Note will be the second (more like the first) smartphone from the company this year, after it introduced a slightly tweaked version of Hongmi in the form of Hongmi 1S last month. Note is expected to play a key role in the company’s international expansion strategy as large-screen phones are very popular in Asian markets, where the company is initially focussing in the first phase of its international expansion.
