Google has finally released the Google Cast SDK needed to make Chromecast apps for all developers. It is now available on Google Developers website.

Expected to open the flood-gates of Chromecast-ready apps, the SDK has been changed quite a bit since the developer preview, notes Google on the developer website.  The SDK will allow application devs to incorporate Cast functionality in their mobile or web apps.

“The Google Cast SDK is simple to integrate because there’s no need to write a new app. Just incorporate the SDK into your existing mobile and web apps to bring your content to the TV. You are in control of how and when you develop and publish your cast-ready apps through the Google Cast developer console,” explained John Affaki, Engineering Manager at Google.

As not much is needed to be changed on the apps’ front, we expect to see the availability of new Cast-compatible apps and the updated versions of the existing content apps with Cast support soon.

Despite being only a $35 device, the absence of apps has been a deterrent for many consumers. That should change as more apps arrive. The app explosion will particularly help the next-generation of Google Cast device (s), which are expected to be announced at the 2014 Google I/O. To remind you, the Chromecast was launched at last year’s I/O.

Now that the Cast apps won’t be limited to a certain geographical boundary (read United States), we can expect to see an announcement regarding the international availability of Chromecast, which still is a US-only device.
