Google today introduced its Explore feature in Google Maps for India and select other Asia-Pacific countries at a press event in Taipei. The feature, which was originally announced back in July this year, allows users to browse and discover new places without even searching for them.

“Explore is a fast and easy way to visually browse and discover new places without even typing. Simply tap the search box and you’ll see cards showing great places to eat, drink, sleep and shop,” Google noted in the original launch blog post.

Explore will be available in India, Taiwan, Australia, Hong Kong and South Korea.

How to use Explore in Google Maps for Android app:

Tap on the search box in Maps app and it shows your recent search history and below that you will find ‘Explore nearby.’ You can then select the desired category like Eat, Drink, Shop etc. and Google will show you the nearest options along with ratings and reviews.

“Explore’s five-star rating system gives a summary of how people feel about these locations and can also link to other Google Maps features, such as directions and street-view images,” Google noted at the press briefing.
