Samsung, Asus and Lenovo emerge as top three Android tablet makers in Q3: IDC

As per the preliminary tablet shipment data shared by research firm IDC for Q3, 2013, Samsung continues to be the leading Android tablet maker followed by Asus and Lenovo. Apart from these three Android tablet vendors, Acer is the only other tablet maker to sell a significant number of tablets in the last quarter.

According to IDC, it was the growth in the shipments of Android tablets that drove the overall tablet market in Q3 as Apple iPad shipments went down from Q2 and Windows tablets hardly sell.

“Worldwide tablet shipments grew to 47.6 million units in the third quarter of 2013. While slightly below the firm’s forecast, the number still represents 7.0% growth over the previous quarter and 36.7% growth compared to the third quarter of 2012,” IDC noted in a press release.

Coming back to Android vendors, Samsung shipped 9.7 million tablets compared to 4.3 million tablets in Q3, 2012. Check out the data for other vendors in the table below.
