Tablet-optimised apps to get in spotlight on Google Play for tablets users

Google has announced that it is making some changes on the apps visibility front beginning November 21. According to a blog post by the company, tablet users will now see the tablet optimised applications (aka Designed for tablets apps) as the default view on Google Play.

Tablets users will still be able to change the view to see all Android apps but by default, tablet-optimised apps will appear in all sections – Top Paid, Top Free, Top Grossing, Top New Paid, Top New Free, and Trending.

Google wants app developers to make their applications tablet-friendly in order to appear in ‘Designed for tablets,’ else lose out on visibility as non-optimised apps will automatically get marked as ‘Designed for phones’ applications.

This will make it easier for the users to identify and download applications that are better suited for the large display of their tablets. It will also give an opportunity to developers to get their applications more visibility in Google Play.

App developers can read more tablet optimisation in Google Play developer console and make relevant changes before the new default view goes live for tablet users. For consumers, it will be an automatic change, so if you own a tablet, you don’t have to do a thing and just wait for November 21 to see tablet-optimised apps right in front and center.
