Is this Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch?

Can’t wait for September 4 to get a look at Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Gear smartwatch? Well, you are in luck. Tech blog VentureBeat has just published what it claims to be the first images of Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

These images show a clunky device, which doesn’t look like something which would replace your wrist watch. It is possible that we are looking at a fake shell here as Samsung has used fake shells in the past to keep the actual designs a secret.

According to VentureBeat, the smartwatch uses a 3-inch OLED display, which is an increase from the 2.5-inch size that we have been hearing about until now. It also packs Bluetooth to connect with Samsung Android devices (if not all Android devices). In addition, Wi-Fi support, 4MP camera and speakers are present.

On the software front, Samsung has reportedly included S Voice, select Android apps for social media access and health related functions.  The smartwatch also allows users to initiate calls from the device itself, which can be completed on phones. Samsung seems to be focussing a lot of on the health part and has even been working with a health start-up based in Palo Alto, California to make fitness apps.

The VB report also confirms the 10 hours+ battery life that was leaked recently, which is again is not a very good thing for smartwatches. You can’t keep charging something you use as a watch multiple times in a day.

With Samsung press conference just days away, we will very soon know everything. Till then check out more images of the watch below.
