Jelly Bean finally overtakes Gingerbread, now most used Android version

As we continues to wait for the elusive Android 4.3 to arrive, versions Android 4.1 and 4.2 have finally overtaken Android 2.3.x. With this, Jelly Bean is now the most-used Android version (at least among the devices that have access to Google Play).

It is important to note here that it look a full year for Jelly Bean to achieve this feat. Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean was announced back in June 2012 and Android 4.2 (another version of Jelly Bean) arrived in October, 2012.

Here is a look at the rise of the device share of Jelly Bean since July 2012 till July 2013.

As per the latest platform data released by Google, Android 4.0.x aka Ice Cream Sandwich continues to reside at the number three position with 23.3 per cent of the device share. Other versions of Android have miniscule device share with Froyo putting up a little fight (3.1 per cent).

With Android 4.3 also set to be a version of Jelly Bean and the next Android version Key Lime Pie still a few months away, it is quite possible that we will Jelly Bean stretching its lead by reaching around 50-60 per cent of the device.
