Google’s Niantic Labs has just released an update for the Field Trip app in Google Play. This update is very significant as it takes the app global, which was until only available for use in UK and US.

Originally launched back in September 2012, the app aims to help you identify cool things nearby. It is a location aware app, so wherever you are near something, which is important or interesting, the app will alert you to check it out. These interesting places can be anything from best places to eat to historical marvels.

This is not all; the app can also read the related information to you.

“Field Trip can help you learn about everything from local history to the latest and best places to shop, eat, and have fun. You select the local feeds you like and the information pops up on your phone automatically, as you walk next to those places,” Google notes in Play store description of the app.

The latest app update, which takes it to version 1.09, also brings ability to translate information cards if they are not in your native language.

Check out the full change-log below:

  • Go on a Field Trip Anywhere, now available in 30+ languages and 80+ countries.
  • Automatically translate cards that are not in your native language.
  • New zoomed-out view of map that aggregates cards to make discovering sights and stories easier.
