Shen however announced that the company is more likely to focus on the education and commercial deployments of the device rather than going for consumer success.
“Chromebook is good, not on the consumer side, but it’s good in the education and government side, and some for the commercial side,” Shen said.
He did not reveal any details about this upcoming Chromebook, but given the focus on education, we can expect to be cheap and entry-level like Samsung and Acer Chromebooks, however it would be interesting to see if Asus chooses Intel’s latest Haswell platform as have been mentioned in some reports.
In related news, Digitimes recently reported that Acer is also working on its second Chromebook. The company reportedly plans to release a new 11.6-inch model in July targeting students similar to Asus. The report also adds Samsung Electronics, Lenovo and Hewlett-Packard (HP) are also expected to release more Chromebooks in the near future.
