Report also adds that Whatsapp makers seem to realise their importance and are playing hardball to get a higher acquisition price.
Google, which is rumoured to be working on a unified communication platform ‘Babel,’ could easily integrate Whatsapp in it and it would be one killer communication platform.
Google’s video chat/ hangouts and normal chat services are already used by millions of people and Whatsapp will bring in a lot more users.
For Google, buying Whatsapp makes more sense than building a Whatsapp like service from scratch. This isn’t the first time that Google is approaching Whatsapp and it is also not alone, rumours were circulating arounf very recently that Facebook was in talks with Whatsapp for a possible acquisition.
No other details are available at the moment and we will update the post as soon as we find something else.

I don’t think google will integrate it with babble
But it makes sense to buy whatsapp and make it an android ONLY application in few months that will give tough competition to BBM
The worst thing about BBM is that it only works on blackberry.
Google does not work like that. Babel will probably be (and should be!) available on all platforms.
BBM is already dead bro. Even babel would be cross platform app when launched. The problem with any other Messenger app is that the world doesn’t need a new one. It’s like what happened with G+ when competing against FB. So acquiring makes a complete sense. To make anything other than Watsapp to succeed, it has to be killed first.
I don’t think buying Whatsapp (available in all platforms) and making it EXCLUSIVE for Android will be good for Google…
But what they can do is, just announce “Whatsapp will be FREE–FOREVER for Android and for all other platforms, it will be as usual FREE for first year ONLY”….
