Jelly Bean now on 25pc of Android devices

Google has revealed that it has changed the way it tracks the Android version adoption among consumers and the new method should “more accurately reflects those users who are most engaged in the Android and Google Play ecosystem,” noted Google on the Android Developers website.

The first results using the new method are in and apart from the Jelly Bean share; there seem to be no dramatic shifts in the overall Android adoption results.

What is changing?

“Beginning in April, 2013, these (Android Platform data) charts are now built using data collected from each device when the user visits the Google Play Store. Previously, the data was collected when the device simply checked-in to Google servers,” Google revealed.

With the results, Jelly Bean and its variants are present on 25 per cent of Android devices. Gingerbread continues to be on the top with 39.8 per cent, followed by Ice Cream Sandwich with 29.3 per cent.

Donut, Eclair, and Honeycomb are headed to their demise; however ForYo is still struggling with 4 per cent of the share.
