Samsung on Tuesday announced that it has added iPhone 5 to an existing patent-infringement lawsuit against Apple. The Korean giant claims that iPhone 5 infringes several of its patents.
“As soon as the iPhone 5 was available for purchase, Samsung began its investigation of the product,” Samsung noted in its court filing. According to Samsung, Apple’s latest iPhone infringes two standards patents and six features patents.
“We have always preferred to compete in the marketplace with our innovative products, rather than in courtrooms. However, Apple continues to take aggressive legal measures that will limit market competition. Under these circumstances, we have little choice but to take the steps necessary to protect our innovations and intellectual property rights,” company told The Verge in a statement.
The current patent lawsuit is still in a very early stage, so it is very possible that iPhone 5 will be added to it in the next scheduled hearing on November 6th.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Injunction
Earlier, Samsung got good news when Judge Lucy Koh dissolved the US sales ban on company’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the United States. This decision comes after a US jury found that Tab 10.1 does not infringe iPad’s hardware design patent.
Judge also stated that court will hold on to the $2.6 million bond Apple posted for the injunction until the trial is wrapped up.
