Last week, we brought you news that the official Samsung Galaxy S II Ice Cream Sandwich update was in the process of being rolled out in select locales around the globe. While the update has not yet spread globally, the latest news from the Sammy stable should create some excitement in the Android modding community, as the source code for the SGSII is now available for the taking.
While the file won’t do much for those looking for an immediate ICS install, it will work wonders for developers already working on various custom ROM projects for the device. Historically, it isn’t long after such files go public that we begin to start seeing those “alpha” and “beta” tags on ROMs replaced with what we all long for — a stable build, capable of being used as a daily driver.
If you’d like to snag the files and do some tinkering for yourself, head over to the source link at the bottom of this post. You will need to do a search by model number to pull up the Galaxy S II (GT-I9100).
As for the official Android 4.0 update, we’ll be sure to let you know as it is made available in more areas. Until then, we’ll have to wait patiently, like good little Droids.
