Sony will release quad core phone in early 2013, says company exec

Sony Mobile Product Marketing manager Stephen Sneeden has told CNET Asia in an interview that according to him company will only release quad core phones in early 2013. However he does point out that it is his personal assumption not company stand, which will be declared once Sony is ready.

“We’re going to join quad-core when we feel that the performance matches the battery efficiency, because right now we don’t feel that is there. What we are going to be doing in the second-half of the year is moving to the Cortex A15 architecture, which we feel outperforms the current quad-core architecture.”

Sneeden says that Sony is evaluating the performance of quad core processors and waiting for the right mix of quality and performance then only it makes sense to move to quad core. He also added that Sony Mobile smartphones will most likely run on ST NovaThor or Qualcomm chips.

It is clearly visible from Stephen’s views that Sony Mobile isn’t in any rush to jump on the Tegra 3 train.
