MapMyIndia partners ShowNearby, launches another POI app

Advertisements

Yet another location aware Places of Interest (POI) application for India has landed in the Android Market, this time it is coming from known Indian navigation services provider MapMyIndia and Singapore’s Shownearby.

With at least 20 such apps for India already available in the Market, it does not really provide any incentive over them. With this app, you can find nearest places of interests such as ATMs, petrol pumps, Banks, Movie Theatres, Restaurants by Cuisine, Attractions, Shopping destinations, and emergency services like Hospitals and Police Stations – the usual stuff.

The information in the app is decent, and you can directly call to the POI from the app or save it to contacts or view directions. On the downside, there is no multi-touch in the maps, so you have to use the zoom-in and out buttons, which actually work the exactly opposite of what they should normally do. I am not sure if that was an issue with my device or with all devices.

You can grab the download from here, and let us know what you thought of the app.

The alternatives for this app would be Getit,  MyCityWay, IndiaRover and even our good old Google Maps etc..

Thanks for the note.

Android browser unfortunately doesn’t seem to be supporting multi-touch. It works smoothly on iOS. The + and – will be corrected shortly. Thanks for pointing it out.

Look forward to further feedback.
