HTC accepts presence of security hole in select Android devices, patching coming

HTC has confirmed that its select Android smartphones have a security vulnerability that could potentially be exploited by a malicious third-party application. Company has also announced that it is working on a security update that will patch this hole and prevent any misuse.

This security hole was first discovered by the guys at Android Police over the weekend and acknowledged by HTC today morning.

The devices which seems to be affected by this vulnerability are HTC Evo 4G, Evo 3D, HTC Thunderbolt, Evo Shift 4G, myTouch Slide 4G, and some variants of HTC Sensation.

What is at risk?

  • Your user accounts, including email addresses
  • Recent GPS locations
  • Phone numbers taken from recent call logs
  • SMS data, and encoded messages

We hope that HTC is fast enough release the security patch.
